Poetry

Where, by Addyson Aiken

Where does love go?
When she has no hand left to hold
Does she chase affection?
Grasping for the wind’s fingertips
She tried the train of forgetting
But the conductor blew his whistle
Leaving her ticket of shame
She raced across steel rails of misery
Misery loves company
Company never understood her
Not how he did
His eyes would soften
His ears would listen
To her in a way
She could never find again
If she tried

Addyson Aiken is a senior at Alamance Christian School. She loves to write as a way to express herself. Being shy, talking and making new friends has always been a struggle. But when she is writing she feels free to say things she would probably never say aloud. Addyson writes poetry as well as fiction. She hopes her poetry can relate to what others go through, and that they might feel seen.
